ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS
President Bruce Jellard
President Bruce Jellard welcomed members and guests with a special welcome to today’s guest speaker who will speak about the ROLE ecco learning centre and a pilot waste management project in the Sawangan area of Nusa Dua.
13 April has been a busy Rotary day for our President. He joined the lunch of RC Bali Seminyak at Metis to meet fellow President Robert:
- Sharing of about IDR 10.000.000,- cost overrun of the clean up Bali day under Bali Clean & Green which Nunie Kneip is apparently carrying up to now. The reaction of RC BS was “ Why were we not told before the overrun was incurred? “. They are asking for a copy of the financial report to present it to their Board on 5 May.
- Dr. Claus Bogh who expressed an interest in joining RCBND has become a member in the newly chartered RC Bali Canggu.
- The alternate route to qualify for Global Grants appears to be full of obstacles as the Global Grant application RC BS filed months ago is still being processed on District level.
During the lunch at RC BS Richard Hazlewood from RC Perth Crawley gave a remarkable presentation about their club. RC Crawley has a unique concept of attracting young members. Five large Australian companies with a contribution of A$ 25.000,- each sponsor young people who otherwise could not afford a membership in Rotary. As a result 70 % of the members are below 40 years old.
At a black tie dinner the club raised A$ 350.000,- for charity through auctions and sale of 260 seats.
He suggested that PP Michael Burchett attended one of their breakfast meetings when next in Perth.
In the evening he, PP Jo Rosarius and PP Mimi Inkiriwang attended the inaugoration ceremony of the newly established RC Bali Canggu which has 35!!! founding members of which 8-9 are former Seminyak members. The meeting venue is the Tugu Hotel.
The President then asked the floor to present or raise points of common interest.
Ari Murti
40 midwife will start training on 29/30 April under the midwife training program at Puskesmas Kuta. The vice Bupati of the regency is to attend the launching of the program.
From 160 pregnant women undergoing closer scrutiny 4 were found HIV positiv.
Risto Poskiparta
The 20th Rotary Bali Nusa Dua Tennis Tournament is open for registration now.
So far sponsors for 110 polo tennis shirts could be found. The Tennis Committee is still looking for sponsors of 90 more shirts.
Through the very active help of Jeff Matthews 30 attractive vouchers are available for a silent auction to be launched soon.
The bad news was that Bank Mandiri reduced their sponsorship from IDR 10.000.000,- (which Risto announced last meeting and Yours Truly forgot to mention in the bulletin) to IDR 5.000.000,-.
Eddy Fitzgerald
He introduced Franki as the manager of Canopy Art Bali an outlet for canopies, shade sails and awnings [enough advertising now]. On hearing the request for more tennis shirt sponsored he spontaneously ordered 20 to bear the logo of Canopy Art Bali.
PP Mimi Inkiriwang
The dinner on 8 April in honour of the RI President Elect was attended by 185 Rotarians with only Eni Pilianingsih and her attending from RCBND.
The RIPE endorsed the plan of having Indonesia split into two Districts.
Tickets for the District Conference 10-11 June at Sanur Paradise Plaza Hotel are still available till end of April at IDR 750.000,- , thereafter the ticket price to increase to IDR 900.000,-. She hoped that many members may attend the DC.
The District Conference booklet is available for advertising by Hotels and other business at IDR 2.500.000,- /page.
PP Jo Rosarius
Three children were operated last week under the cleft lip and palate program.
GUEST SPEAKER PRESENTATION
Mike O’Leary
Founder and CEO of the ROLE foundation. ROLE is now established at two locations in Nusa Dua, namely the Town Learning Centre at Siligita and the Eco Learning Park at Suwangan.
He introduced two projects for which potentially ROLE and RC Bali Nusa could partner up:
1. Children Eco Education program. An interactive program on environment, diet/nutrition and health/exercise to bring environmental and health awareness into children’s daily behavior.
2. Waste management Pilot Project. A project to clean up Nusa Dua Suwangan and keep it clean. If successful the project can be replicated in other areas.
Papers with much more details on both projects including budgetary estimates were distributed to the attendees.
President Bruce and members thanked Mike O’Leary for his presentation.
Priti Kapur (correction from last bulletin)
