ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS
President Dave Lance
President Dave Lance welcomed members and guests, thanking Rotary Club Bali Seminyak’s President, Patrick van Kampen for joining our meeting, with a RCBS team!

President Dave informed all those present that the club’s Board of Directors had met prior to the weekly meeting, for their monthly board meeting. He then requested the Chairman of Community Services, Karl-Heinz Schmelzer to update all members, as to the current status of the club’s various projects.

Karl-Heinz then informed as follows:

  • Bali Clean & Green Project
  • A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the Sawangun Banjar Leurah for the Pilot Waste Management Project, which is being managed by RCBND together with the ROLE Foundation and it is expected that garbage collection treatment will commence within 30 days.

    A first educational session was held with the banjar residents on August 28, 2011 to reinforce the need for proper garbage removal and disposal.

    If this pilot project is successful we are hopeful that the project can be extended to include a further banjar in the Nusa Dua area.

  • HIV /Aids Project
  • To date this project has focussed on mid wives training programs in the Nusa Dua and Tanjong Benoa area, working together with the area Puskemas. The board has approved the expansion of this project to the Klungkung area, where a similar amount of funds, some Rp 14 million will be invested in mid wife training for twelve months.

  • Shelter Box Project
  • In mid 2010 the club purchased 3 Shelter Boxes, which were put in service on Mentawi Island (near Padang) to assist earthquake victims in the area. The board has approved the purchase of a further 3 Shelter Boxes on an annual basis for two years, so as ensure there availability for possible future disaster relief.

PP Jo Rosarius
Jo Rosarius then informed as follows:

  • Cleft Lip Project
  • While the current Cleft Lip Project has seen a slowdown vs. prior projects with 67 operations to date. Jo informed the meeting that the total operations sponsored by the club now total 1,241 since 1994. We are also going to be facing an increase in the cost per operation from Sanglah Hospital but that he (Jo) is still negotiating with the hospital in this matter.

  • Emergency Operation for Mifta (boy with facial deformity)
  • The club has still not received an invoice from Sanglah Hospital for the third operation, which was an emergency operation performed without our knowledge or approval. The hospital has been informed in writing that no further operations are to be performed without the prior approval of the club.

    We will also seek assistance from the original referrer of this case to RCBND, Mr. Michael Tuddenham, in seeking contributions toward the total costs.

    Dr. Reno has been requested to follow up with the doctors who have performed these operations at Sanglah Hospital to see if the results are now satisfactory or will further treatments be required.

  • Member Dues Rotary Year 2011 /2012
  • As Treasurer of RCBND, Jo reminded some 50% of annual dues were now overdue for the Rotary Year July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012, as follows:

    District Dues Rp. 240,000,-
    RI Dues US$ 70,-
    RF Contribution US$ 100,-(optional)

    Sergeant at Arms, Martin Smyth reminded all members that non payment of dues would be considered a ‘fineable offence’ as of next week!

Keith Bell
Rtn. Keith Bell gave his apologies for the next two weeks, as he will be attending the PATA Conference in India, together with some sightseeing.

Monty Brown
Member Monty Brown informed of his relocation with Aman Resorts to Hawaii as of September 15, 2011 and that he would therefore be resigning from the club. Monty, thanked fellow members of RCBND for there friendship and his being able to help the club during his time of almost 7 years as a member and wished RCBND every success in there future charitable efforts in the community.

Patrick van Kampen
Patrick van Kampen, President of RCBS thanked the club for our welcome to our weekly meeting and RCBS looks forward to having RCBND members attend RCBS meetings in the future.

Franklin Sitompul
Franklin Sitompul, Sales Manager of Hatten Wines outlined the wine tasting evening they hosted for RCBS recently, which was a success.

CC Mimi reminded fellow RCBND members.

PE (RCBS) Robyn Dougherty
PE Robyn Dougherty, of RCBS detailed the many projects RCBS is currently involved with, including Leprosy, Smile Foundation Cleft Lip, School Scholarships and Books for Schools.

Dr. Reno
Member Dr. Reno explained the technicalities pertaining to the skin disease cases he has been following up on with dermatologists at Sanglah Hospital.

Barbara MacKenzie
Barbara MacKenzie, secretary of RCBS, outlined their club’s intention to look into a Breast Cancer Awareness program, together with a Cancer Hospice project. Barbara also introduced her guest from California, Gloria who outlined her reasons for considering Bali as her future home.

PP Michael Burchett
CC Michael Burchett apologised for the guest speaker who had to cancel due to another engagement and ‘coerced’ Member Monty Brown into running a repeat of ‘This is My Life’, following which Monty was wished every success in his future endeavours, by acclamation.

Our former member and Andreas Menzel
Our former member and a guest today, Andreas Menzel thanked RCBND for welcoming him back as a guest and presented President Dave Lance with a donation of Rp 3,500,000 to help cover the cost of an operation in the club’s Clift Lip Program at Sanglah Hospital, wishing RCBND every future success.

Rotary Club Queenstown
Rotarian Wolf a member of the Rotary Club Queenstown in Singapore thanked RCBND for again welcoming him as a guest on his annual visit to Bali.

Raffle
Tickets for IDR 300.000,- were sold. The prize a box of boutique Chinese Tea, was won by avid tea drinker, Member Monty Brown. Past winners owing prizes are reminded not to forget to make their contributions at the forthcoming meetings.

Monty is requested to bring a raffle prize to his farewell lunch on September 8, 2011.

Fines
Fines of IDR 80.000,- were collected for all and sundry offences.
