ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS
President David Lance
President Dave welcomed members and announced that Jo is our “guest speaker” today by presenting updates on the Cleft Lip Program.
President Dave also extended a special welcome to five children and their parents from Puskesmas Nusa Dua. Dave handed over our monthly “healthy food” packages for nine children. This is the third month of our program supporting disadvantaged children with nutritional supplements in the Nusa Dua area.
President Dave then sent the microphone around the table for any updates, news or interesting asides.
Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
Karl-Heinz gave an update Waste Management Project in Sawangan with ROLE:
- Just 2 days earlier an agreement was done with Sawangan Banjar to provide 50 small rubbish bins with stickers for small warungs. The Banjar showed its commitment by paying 75% of the cost.
- The composting area is taking its shape in ROLE. The operational cost of the project seem to be less than expected, so the possible expansion could be materialize in next 3 months.
- All in all it looks like our risk taking on the project is paying off.
Ari Murti
Ari announced that the scholarship money for 12 HIV positive children was handed over on Saturday. The school reports will be provided every six month to see the progress of the children. This program shows the holistic way RCBND takes care of HIV children from their mother’s womb until school age.
“Save the Young Generation in the Era Full of Challenges” will be a 10 minute video clip, Ari will present at the end of this Rotary Year.
The following month Ari announced she will also make a presentation in Solo about our HIV program and other service programs as well in an occasion which the President of Indonesia will participate.
It was also discussed and reminded to everyone, that RCBND’s name needs to be visible in all efforts, where RCBND contributes funding.
Gary Phair
Gary informed the club that the tennis tournament logo contest is getting into its final stage with many suggestions.
Gary also announced that he will be organising a trial on-line auction for Rotaracts fund raising. The donations are mainly coming from local hotels.
BHA will start helping Rotaracts via their scholarship program to find new members and new activities. Gary also tabled a new idea for Rotaracts to raise funds namely to utilize hotel lobbies to sell drawings, made by deaf children, to tourists. The proceeds would go to Luar Biasa Deaf School and Rotaract programs.
Lastly, Gary put forward an idea to have a RCBND t-shirt for our members. The idea was warmly welcomed and a sample was asked.
PP Mercia Inkiriwang
PP Mimi presented tickets for an event / seminar talking about women’s cancer.
PP Edward Naus
PP Edward updated members about new funds available from the Netherlands for our Cleft Lip program.
Roger Thomas and Keith Bell
Roger and Keith gave the members a couple good chuckles with their good jokes.
GUEST SPEAKER
PP Jo Rosarius
PP Jo gave a presentation on the history or our Cleft Lip program:
- During 1994 – 1998, over 300 operations were performed. Project was halted in 1998 and re-launched in 1999. By 29 February 2012, 1300 operations were performed. The cost of operations have evolved from IDR 1,7 million (US$ 200) in 2006 to IDR 5,5 million (US$ 620) in 2012.
- Actually RCBND has funded the program more than via Matching Grant and other donations.
We have the list of all operations performed since 1999. During recent years the focus has been on repeated follow-up operations, as they are very important from the health point of view, especially in cleft palate operations. - All that said, more funds are needed asap.
