President Risto Poskiparta

President Risto Poskiparta opened the meeting by welcoming the visiting Rotarians, guest with a special welcome to John Aubuchon (photo above, right), and our members.

President Risto reported that our annual Charity Tennis Tournament’ proceeds currently stands at over Rp. 69 million, more than 10 juta higher than last year. That sum will still grow, because some items are still to be sold.

President Risto tols members that John Aubuchon had worked approximately 300 hours on the tournament, which included purchase and familiarization with the new tournament software and managing the tournament with 110 entrees. In appreciation of this contribution, Risto handed over a voucher for 2 night stay at Gending Kedis Villas and a ProKennex tennis racket to John, purchased at our auction by RCBND from funds collected by Risto from us at the previous meeting.

As well, our Honorary Member, DR. Asmarajya, waited for 3 hours until trophy ceremony and handed over this prizes to the juniors.

Other updates from Risto included:

  • President Risto has invited 36 members of the International Yachting Club to our meeting on Nov. 22.
  • Eny will represent us at the first meeting for the “ Peace Essay Writing Competition for Schools and Universities” on Saturday, 15 September 16:00 hours at Bali Kopi.
  • 2 Billboards promoting Rotary will be erected, one at Jl. Raya Kuta, one at Ida Bagus Mantra (RCBND’s contribution is Rp. 2,000,000.-.

Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
Karl-Heinz reported that he has again taken over the Community Service Committee. The first meeting will be soon. He invited interested members, especially also new members to join this important committee.

Also Karl-Heinz announced that the next meeting with Sawangan Banjar and Role Foundation was to be held Thursday afternoon. Main subject will be sustainability of the project.

Martin Aeschlimann
Vocational Service – Martin has received the training program for cooks with 400 pages from Switzerland. It has to be translated from German at least into English if we want to pursue the cook training idea.

PP Jo Rosarius
PP Jo has sent detailed information about our Hare-lip and Cleft Palate Project to Al Bergsma, RC Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada, and has followed that up with a phone call. They are interested to be our partner for the Global Grant and suggest an amount of USD 60-90,000. Priti and Jo have prepared the necessary papers to be reviewed by Risto before sending.

Ari Murti
Ari explained HIV/AIDS – For next year she expects the project to include 100 counsellors, 100 HIV kids to school and milk support for 100 babies. Total funds needed for this size of project Rp. 200 million.

Bruce Jellard
Bruce has informed reached basis agreement with New Kuta Golf to hold the 2012 Rotary Club Bali Nusa Dua Charity Golf Tournament there. Date is now scheduled for Nov 3, 13:00 hours, shotgun start. A meeting is to be held after lunch.

Guest Mary Northmore
Mary is the founder and chairwoman of Smile Foundation, which started 7 years ago and is involved in cleft palate and other facial deformities.

Tickets for IDR 640,000- were sold. Past winners owing prizes are reminded not to forget to make their contributions at the forthcoming meetings.

Fines of IDR 10,000 were collected for all and sundry offenses.
