  • We are in contact with a Canadian Club for the Global Grant and preparing detailed information about our hare-lip and cleft palate project.
  • Ari, with the help of Priti, is preparing HIV/AIDS Project material to be sent to Holland.
  • This year’s Rotary Bali Tennis Tournament is well on the way with 112 players and 188 entries
  • President Risto explained, how hard John was working to make the tournamant a success. John had already bought 1 of the 30 tennis rackets for his partner. Risto collected IDR 800,000.- from club members to give to him as (part of?) our thank you in recognition of his efforts.

Priti Kapur
Priti added that all 60 tickets for the Mega Raffle are sold, Draw will be on Friday at the Nikko. Another smaller raffle will be done on Sunday.

Priti also advised that there are 23 prizes up for auction. To date we reached the same amount as last year. Until closing 18:00 hours Bali time Thursday that should be exceeded.

PP Mercia Inkiriwang
PP Mimi reported some district news. First, that the next District conference will be held in May in Solo while the next Rotary Convention in Libson, Portugal. Second, Mimi advised that a District Dedicated Fund (DDF) in the amount of USD 850 may be used for a joined District project but also for one of the club’s own projects such as the HIV scholarship program.

Martin Smyth
Martin clarified that our Club is now (up to August 12) No. 7 in size on Bali, and No. 3 on Bali for total contribution for the Rotary Foundation.

Guest Rotarian Wolf Gottel
Repeat guest Rotarian Wolf advised that he is on Bali once a year to catch up with old friends. He met for instance David Kuper at INSEAD 40 years ago!

Guest David Kuper
David (above photo) explained why the decision was taken to close RC Ubud, which he had started at RCBND’s request more than 10 years ago, because only 4 members were left and nobody wanted to work on the board.

Then David gave a update on the Temesi Organik Compos (Waste Recycling Centre). Temesi processes 40 tons of organic waste daily. Because of forced aeration no methane is created in the process. From the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism they get a carbon credit of 150,000 USD per year. Still, the projects has to be subsidized with IDR 50 Million per month because they cannot sell enough compost. One of the reasons he came to us was to promote the compost, which sells at IDR 500,000 per ton. Nyoman Budiarta has taken over the management at Temesi Organik Compos.

Tickets for IDR 720,000- were sold. The mystery prize, a special candle, was won by lucky Priti. Past winners owing prizes are reminded not to forget to make their contributions at the forthcoming meetings.

Fines of IDR 10,000 were collected for all and sundry offenses.
