President Risto Poskiparta
President Risto Poskiparta opened the meeting, calling the Club Assembly to order and presenting the Agenda in accordance with RI President Sakuji Tanaka’s 2012-2013 Presidental Citation Form to assess the direction and accomplishments of our club this year to date. Discussion followed on the following two points:

  • Brainstorm long-range goals and action plans
  • Brainstorm ideas for projects and activities

Long range goals and actions

  • President Risto stated that RCBND does have a limited number of core projects.
  • PP Edward Naus pointed out that for Cleft Lip our main project many years yet there are still 8,000 children in need of help. For general information, PP Jo Rosarius added that he had been in contact with Dr. Asmarajaya about the invoice he had got; from a total of 11 invoices 3 were already paid, 3 were rejected and 5 still to be paid. Sanglah Hospital had invited children for operations without asking us first.
  • PP Jo Rosarius, in the absence of Reinhold Jantzen, presented Reinhold’s proposal to shoot two kinds of short films on the subjects hygiene and traffic education to be broadcasted 3-4times a week on public TV. PP Jo stated that he has done traffic films in Jakarta before without any success, but supports the idea of films about hygiene.
    • > Ari added that she had given up TV presentation because of lack of lack of success and proposed to go through Banjars.

      > Karl-Heinz Schmelzer should contact Rebecca Sweetman from The Paradigm Shift, an Australian filmmaker. She’s looking for waste management project just like ours as an example for the rest of Bali.

      > PP Michael Burchett summarized that we should evaluate the film idea but concentrate on cleft lip, HIV and waste management.

RI Presidential Citation

2012-2013 President Challenge Requirements
President Risto explained a bit about the President Citation forms, which should be sent to the District Governor not later than 31 March, who then must report the names of the qualifying clubs to RI no later than April 15, 2013.

Club or Community Peace Forum or Service Project focussed on peace.

  • Several Rotary Clubs on Bali have decided to hold Peace Essay Writing Competition. Rtn. EP has represented us at the first meeting for the ” Peace Essay Writing Competition for schools and University ” on Saturday, 15 September together with a member of Rotaract Nusa Dua. However Eni is preparing to return to Java. Hopefully Gary Phair can continue to represent our club, when he returns next month.

Strenghtening Our Club
Three year strategic plan. So far agreed on annual budget, which is ok.

From additional 8 activities, a minimum of 3 are required:

  • Conduct club assembly.
    • > Done.

  • Attact and retain members with innovative approach with target 1 member plus.
    • > Bipan and Risto with Alain (from Jakarta) – on the way.

  • Action plan to retain 85% of members
    • > Each member should participate in one service program and one social activity

  • Increase diversity.
    • > Done, with eleven nationalities amongst 32 members, we are quite diversified
  • Intiate program to welcome and mentor new members
    • > Karl-Heinz stated that we need to include new members in projects. PP Michael stated that we should definitely assign a mentor for the first few meetings. In the past we had a brochure bit nowadays websites are available for introductory information into Rotary and RCBND. Bipan Kapur could match a new member with his mentor. Bipan could also name the mentor for each new member.

  • Program for alumni
    • > We do not have any knowledge on this subject.

Increase our service
Required participation in service project in one of Rotary’s area of focus.

    Fundraising Sub Committee
    The members fully supported this idea. Dona Poskiparta, PP Edward Naus and PP Martin Smyth volunteered.

    Tickets for Rp. 590,000- were sold. This week’s prizes were donations from the tennis tournament.

    Fines of Rp. 10,000 were collected for all and sundry offenses.
