ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS
Acting SAA Edward Naus
Act 1, scene 1 … with theatrical flourish and aplomb Acting SAA Edward Naus called Rotarians to order following 30 minutes of joyous fellowship.

President Gary Phair
Act II, President Gary took a new approach this week waiting five minutes after everyone was seated to give everyone a chance to settle down before welcoming visiting Rotarians and guests and making announcements. Once seated and settled President Gary welcomed and introduced our visiting Rotarians, DG Iman Mujari, ADG Wayan Suryawan and one of RCBND’s favourite visiting Rotarians, Rtn. Wolf Göettel for his annual luncheon while on holiday from Singapore with The Management.

The big news this week is the 22nd Annual Rotary Bali Charity Tennis Tournament is now in full swing and good things are happening.

  • The Rotaract Club members are very helpful, out in force and helping in many ways! The Rotaractors are wonderful group of young and up and coming leaders.
  • Have some seriously good players this year and the level of competition is very high.
  • Some sponsors have yet to pay for their t-shirts :-(
  • We now have a stunning new website, RotaryBaliAuctions.org, for the on-line charity auction with lots of different items on the block so… please tell your friends, family. Good stuff, Good prices, Great Cause…

In other news Gary announced that Bali Wise (R.O.L.E.) is having an open house on 2 September to introduce their many programs.

President Gary then passed the microphone around the table for comments and updates.

PP Michael Burchett
PP Michael, announcing that he would not be able to join next week’s meeting, offered all present a glass of wine to toast his birthday. Hooray and Happy Birthday Michael!

Axel Kneip
Axel announced that PP Edward’s friends in The Netherlands have decided to come along and join us. With The Netherland’s contribution we will now process the Global Grant for USD81k. That would be sufficient to perform approximately 155 operations over 18 months. Next step is obtaining M.O.U.s from the three hospitals. This will get underway asap as it unknown how long each will take to respond.

PP Jo Rosarius
Following on Axel’s remarks, PP Jo stated that we would have a meeting with the Director of Sangglah Hospital next week.

PP Edward Naus
PP and today’s Acting SAA stated that although it was a bit difficult at times to secure the Dutch Club’s commitment, all’s well that ends well and then initiated a rousing, if somewhat off key, rendition of Happy Birthday for Michael.

GUEST SPEAKER
DG Imam Mujari
DG Imam (above photo, right), with the assistance of ADG Wayan, addressed the club. To begin, DG Imam provided a very brief summary of his career and family stating that he is a Dr. of Dentistry and in addition to a private practice, now a Professor of Dentistry. He has three daughters, two of which are dentists and one who is still in medical school. DG Imam joined Rotary in 1995 in Unjung Padang (now Makassar).

Happy to be at one of Indonesia’s most active clubs DG presented President Gary with a RI First Class pin for club member TRF contributions. DG Iman stated that the purpose of his visit is discuss the yearly planning guide and urged the club to put membership in the yearly planning and prioritise it so that it will be followed up. Furthermore the most important positions in the club’s leadership are President, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Committee Chair and TRF Committee Chair.

DG urged all RCBND members to attend the District 3420 conference in Makassar 16-18 May 2014. This will be the first time the conference is held in Makassar and whatever are RCBND activities these will be announced and discussed at the conference.

As well, shortly thereafter, RI will hold its international convention in Sydney 4-6 June, 2014. Seems RI did not not get the memo from President Gary about Melbourne being the centre of the known universe, but be that as it may, being so close it will still be a great opportunity for Indonesian clubs to attend. And then they can visit Melbourne…

Then DG Imam answered several questions about the new website, announcements and the like. DG Imam clarified the new rule wherein if a Rotarian works for 12 hours on a club or Rotary project he/she will entitled to one ‘makeup’. The previous rule of 60% attendance (presence) at club meetings is evolving with the idea for Rotarians to get out into the community.

With that it was for time for today’s final act from Acting SAA Edward…

Raffle
Tickets for IDR 370,000 were sold. Susan Stein won a dinner for two at the new Mantra Hotel compliments of PP Michael. Past winners (especially Susan) owing prizes are reminded not to forget to make their contributions at forthcoming meetings.

Fines
Fines of IDR 10,000 were collected for all and sundry offenses.

With business concluded President Gary thanked one and all for their attendance before making the final curtain call at 2.00PM.
