RC Hilo Hawai’i and RC Honolulu Sunrise Donate to Bali

PP Martin, President Dona, President Wally, PP Risto

The Rotary Club of Hilo, Hawai’i has donated US$3,000 to Rotary Club Bali Nusa Dua and the Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunrise has joined the Rotary Club of Hilo with an additional US$500 to be used for the benefit of the underprivileged children in Bali.

This great gesture was part of the Hōkūleʻa canoeing voyage from Hawai’i, which had a changeover of the crew at Benoa Harbour in Bali and before continuing towards Christmas Island and Mauritius.

The ship’s mission is to celebrate “One World, Once Ocean and One People” and included Bali in its itinerary in order to learn more about the rich cultural traditions of the Balinese. Before embarking, the four-year voyage was christened as “M’lama Honua” meaning “To care for our Earth.” The voyage will end late 2017 back in Hawai’i.

On Friday, 14th of August, RC Bali Nusa Dua President Dona, VP Martin and PP Risto, went to Benoa Harbour to visit President Wallace (Wally) Wong from the Rotary Club of Hilo Hawai’i with his canoeing team.

On Sunday, 16th of August 2015 President Wally (top photo far left) and Bruce Blankenfeld, Captain of the Hōkūleʻa (top photo far right), presented a symbolic cheque of US$3,500 to President Dona.

Rotary Club Bali Nusa Dua was chosen as their partner based on the information, the Board of the Rotary Club of Hilo had learned from our web site with help of Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunrise PP Eric Kaler and current International Services Director of the club. Eric is PP of RC Bali Nusa Dua (2004-2005).

A BIG Thank you to both RC Hilo Hawai’i and RC Honolulu Sunrise for the generous donations! :-)
