ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS

SAA Debra
SAA for the day Debra, brought the meeting to order at 1.00pm.

Acting President PP Wes
Acting President Wes noted the very light attendance due to a golf tournament in which many of our members played, including our President Dona and pretty much everyone else, and there were no guests or speakers.

PP Wes announced that at next week’s meeting, there will be guests from other local Rotary clubs, including Seminyak, and from Kolewa Foundation. In addition, Dr. Ashish, the Asian director of Smile Train International, will be a guest speaker on the subject of dental care post cleft palate surgeries. IF we want to support Kolewa’s dental program, there will be many obstacles, and Dr. Ashish will address these.

PP Wes also told us that there will be another wine and tapas evening at the Westin Hotel on Friday evening, June 3, and he will email an announcement to all members.

Lastly PP Wes told us about the visit to Puspadi Bali last Friday, to see two students from YPAC (school for mental and physically handicapped students) who were fitted with two legs each, which slightly exceeded our original allocation of money but the additional funding was approved by the Board. There are seven other children who need braces fitted, and he will submit a project proposal to Community Services Committee for funding.

Adjis Budidjaya
Adjis wants to focus on raising more funds from sponsors, and he suggests that we develop ways to give generous sponsors more recognition.

Mirella Neumann
Mirella suggests starting a new fundraising project, and she talked about the Life Ball that is staged every year in Vienna and has become a massive success, raising millions of dollars for treatment of HIV/AIDS. It attracts celebrities and tourists, and perhaps we could put together a similar event that tourists would like to attend, in addition to local people and companies. It would be an ambitious undertaking but might bring in a lot of help. Following the meeting, Debra found a long article about the Life Ball on the Internet, and she will provide copies for those who want them.

With our beloved SAA Risto out on the golf course, there was no raffle or fines were levied today.

Acting President PP Wes thanked everyone for an enjoyable lunch and adjourned the meeting at 2:00 p.m.
