ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS

Acting SAA Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
Acting SAA Karl-Heinz, wearing two hats today rang the bell together to bring the meeting to order at 1.00pm.

President Dona Poskiparta
President Dona welcomed the members and our visitor and friend, Wim.

A joint Community and Vocational Service Committee meeting was held prior to this luncheon. Chair Karl-Heinz will later provide details.

The remainder of this Rotary year will be busy, golf tournament in April,
District conference in May, Board handover in June plus all the preparations for the 25th Club anniversary festivity.

Two Rotaractors of Rotaract Club Bali Nusa will attend the RYLA conference in early April, one sponsored by the Club and one by PDG Kuhn whose cheque over IDR 1,900,000 we received today.

Dona then circled the microphone to get the meeting underway.

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
Secretary Karl-Heinz provided details about the earlier joint Community and Vocational Service Committee meeting.

  • All HIV related projects are running routinely. Last month Ari and he visited Kerti Praja Foundation and saw the 6 babies receiving breast milk substitutes. All babies remained HIV negative and look well fed and healthy.
  • Also clinic Amerta, the doctor and nurses working there made a very good impression.
  • Based on information from Emily Rowe, PP Gary has informed Rtn. Henk of RC Zwartewatersteden (who is piloting the project in his club), that all is in good order regarding the 25 HIV positive children for which we are jointly providing scholarships.
  • A few days ago we received the IDR equivalent of USD 4,000 from RC Zwartewatersteden securing the financing of the scholarship program for the entire 6 years of basic schooling.
  • Axel, Wes, Risto and Karl-Heinz all agreed to be part of the GG team for the intended new Global Grant. The Board will have to formally endorse this.
  • When the microphone comes to Axel he will inform about the present and future CLP Global Grant projects.

PP Risto Poskiparta
PP Risto reported on the progress made in preparations for the golf tournament on 15 April. He had a meeting with Mark (our member and manager of Bali National Golf) this morning. It is now clear that sponsored beverages may be only consumed on the course. For consumption in the club house the last year’s discounts apply.

The help of Rotaract will be needed in running the tournament. We need two to three Rotaractors for the putting contest and two for selling beer vouchers and Mulligans.

Risto also mentioned that he met also with Urs who is trying to win the support of Hatten wines, preferably by sponsoring a hole.

We are still in need of a beer sponsor. PP Edward offered his help to make contact to “Prost” should approaching other brands fail.

Visiting Rtn. Wim van Rijswijk
Wim said that will leave Bali in 2,5 weeks for Holland and thanked the Club once more for its warm hospitality.

PP Gary Phair
PP Gary He thanked Wim and the entire RC Zwartewatersteden once more for donating USD 4,000 which will cover the cost of the joint scholarship project for further 3 years.

Rtn Mark Holland
He is in contact with several beverage companies regarding sponsorship for our golf tournament. Unfortunately a regret was received Beer Bintang.

He added that in place of getting a discount on beverages served at the club house there is the option of consuming sponsored beverages against a corkage.

Rtn. Axel Kneip
The final report for our present CLP Global Grant is in progress. All invoices have been received. For finalising of the financial report he is awaiting closure of accounts as per 31.3.2017. He requested the GG team meeting with Dr. Asmarajaya at the earliest to get input regarding sustainability aspects.

Under the GG 168 surgeries (target 156) have been conducted on 149 patients.

Regarding the new Global Grant (GG) six or seven international Rotary Clubs have been approached including asking for help to facilitate operations between old and new GG. A new contact is being established to Boxhill, Victoria, Australia.

Rtn David Lang
David inquired about the bulletins of March. In response Karl-Heinz explained that sometimes there is a time lag of two to three bulletins as he writing them and Wes publishing them do not always find time to act on them as they liked.

Rtn. Christine Velde
Rtn Christine inquired whether having an agenda for the lunch meetings, as Clubs in Australia do, would not better structure the meetings and make issuing the bulletins easier.

President Dona appreciated Christine’s constructive input. While agenda are established for more formal meetings, like Board meetings and Club assemblies, as far as she knew, the Club never had an agenda for the luncheons. However presentations by guest speakers are always announced beforehand.

The luncheon is rather considered a coming together for a meal. Also the time is limited to only one hour. Attendance can vary widely. Often there are short term cancellations.
