Acting SAA Martin Smyth rang the bell to bring the meeting to order at 1.00pm.

President Dona Poskiparta
President Dona welcomed our visiting Rotarian Yuki and members. She informed that a Board meeting was held prior to this luncheon, the last such meeting for this Rotary Year.

Donna announced that the date for the Board Handover Dinner has been firmed up with 30 June 2017. She then thanked the members for their support throughout her second term as President.

She passed the microphone to PP Karl-Heinz for an update on the points discussed during the Board meeting.

Secretary PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
PP and Secretary Karl-Heinz gave an update of the points discussed and/or decided during the Board meeting.

  • The minutes of the previous Board meeting, April 13, 2017 were reviewed and approved unanimously.
  • As no suitable date could be found for a presentation PDG Hanny about membership, the incoming Board is to arrange a date for this presentation.
  • The Secretary is working on an update of the membership roster. It will be ready for the handover to the incoming Secretary.
  • A thank you letter to Susy and Roland for donating tee shirts for all goodie bags at the Orphans Christmas has been sent.
  • As the financial statement for May 2017 was not ready at time of the meeting it need to be reviewed and approved together with the June statement during the first Board meeting of the new Rotary Year. Also the March and April statements still require formal approval.
  • While the incoming Board is to be welcomed at the Board Handover Dinner on 30 June, a formal handover of offices shall take place at a joint meeting of the old and new Board scheduled on 6 July 2017.
  • The Club Goals for Rotary Year 2017/2018 are to be formulated by the incoming Board.
  • Bali Advertiser is interested in having a regular Rotary column in their pages. The English speaking clubs in Bali are invited to take turns in writing their articles. The Board was unanimously in favor of accepting this offer. President Dona will respond to their email. Candidates for writer and/or editor are Gary and Wes.

Then the Service Chairs gave their reports. Here what they reported.

Community Service:

  • All projects are running routinely.
  • With regard to the new CLP Global Grant Axel was in contact with RC Muelheim Uhlenhorst (Muelheim is the home town of Karl-Heinz) who appear to have committed USD 12,500 (or EUR?) including share of District and TRF. If confirmed, we would have reached the threshold of 30 % international participation and could register the new CLP Global Grant.

Vocational Service

  • With sufficient funds raised at the 15 April Golf tournament the Board re-confirmed the approval of the Bali Children Foundation scholarship project and of the Scholarship project for 6 students at SMKN 1. The project leader will be Dona. A MoU can be signed with the school.

  • There are several potential new members whose names were introduced to the Board.

Club Service

  • A committee has been formed to organize the Board Handover Dinner scheduled for 30 June.

New Generation

  • Rotaract is to be invited to a luncheon in July 2017 to present their activities of the RY 2016/2017 and their program for RY 2017/2018.

Fund raising

  • The focus is now on getting a couple of lucky draw prizes for the handover Dinner.
  • In his function as Chair Community Service and acting Chair Vocational Service Karl-Heinz announced the next joint meeting of the two services to be held on 22 June 2017.

Visiting Rotarian Masaharu Yukimoto
Yuki is presently Membership Chair of RC Bali Seminyak and earlier has been the Club’s Vice President and Project Services Chair.

PP Wes
Wes informed that Syta Plantinga of Kolewa, Risto and he had a meeting with Dharma Yadnya Hospital on 31 May to discuss fees for CLP operations both ongoing and future under an intended new GG.

The requested increases in terms of IDR look a bit steep but when converted to USD are rather moderate.

PP Wes requested and Kolewa is now presently preparing a statistic of frequency of cleft lip and cleft palate operations as well as operations requiring bone craft to better craft a response and counter offer to RSU Dharma Yadnya. Once known we will be better able to establish the average operation cost and can focus on negotiating the cost of those operation weighted heaviest in the statistic.

From March to May 2017 nine operations have been executed which now need to be paid from Club funds. That said, PP Wes mentioned that he intends to forward a request/proposal from Kolewa at the coming Community Service Committee meeting to increase from three operations to four operations per month.

PP Martin Smyth
Martin informed that the committee formed for the Board Handover Dinner will come up with a decision regarding the venue shortly.

And with that Martin segued nicely into his role du jour as the SAA…

Raffle tickets of IDR 550,000 were sold with incoming Secretary Hugh Brown winning a nice bottle of sparkling wine. Hugh and other past winners owing prizes are reminded not to forget to make their contributions at forthcoming meetings.

No Fines were levied today.

With no further business to attend to President Dona thanked everyone for joining today and the meeting was adjourned at 2:00PM.
