ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS

Acting SAA Martin Smyth
Acting SAA Martin Smyth rang the bell and called the meeting to order at precisely 1.00pm.

President Edward Naus
Edward welcomed members to his first lunch meeting as the new President. He thanked the outgoing President and Board, and congratulated them for a successful and enjoyable year of Club activities. President Edward promised the Club that he and the Board would work hard to support a dynamic Club in 2017/18.

PP Dona Poskiparta
Newly minted PP Dona thanked President Edward for his remarks, and welcomed the new Board. She reported on the success of the recent Handover Dinner, and handed over two DVDs of photographs of the event to the President, for circulation and safe-keeping.

Hugh Brown
The New Secretary, Hugh Brown, was asked to provide a brief overview of the first Board meeting, which had been concluded before the lunch meeting. Reported highlights included:

  • Following recent requests to all Members to confirm their participation in RCBND for 2017/18, five inactive members have decided to resign from RCBND, and 4 non-respondents have been terminated. Two new Members have joined the Club, and current membership stands at 29. It is expected that these changes will support increased Club activities and dynamism in the coming year.
  • The new Board has ratified a number of requests for funding approvals for new and ongoing activities, totaling some Rp 140 million, including:
      SMK N1 (Rp 18.5 mill)

Bali Children Foundation (Rp 23.1 mill)

Scholarship/ HIV AIDS (12 children) (Rp 14.4 mill)

Extended Scholarship/ HIV AIDS (25 children) (Rp 30.0 mill)

Kerta Praja Baby Milk (Rp 21.6 mill)

Kerta Praja – Klinik Amerta (Rp 30 mill)

  • The target set for Members’ contributions to TRF for 2016/17 was an optimistic if not challenging $5000, but Club performance of $5020 surpassed this target, because of the generosity of PDG Kuhn.
  • The Board unanimously agreed that the frequency of Club Meetings was widely considered to be very satisfactory, and would not be changed.

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
PP and Treasurer 2017-2018, Karl-Heinz Schmelzer, stated that he is happy to be able to use both hands when eating his meals while in his previous position as Secretary one hand was always used to scribble notes. The outgoing Board in the joint Board meeting prior to this lunch has approved the financial statement of June 2017. The closing balance of 30 June 2017 will be the starting balance for the new Rotary Year.

Ari Murti
Rtn Ari Murti suggested that we might consider using the Bali Advertiser to ask for sponsors to support the program providing baby milk to HIV/AIDS affected children. In response to the suggestion:

  • President Edward suggested that the major milk suppliers might approached directly to provide milk for the program under their CSR responsibilities;
  • PP Gary and Treasurer Karl noted that the service provider (Kerta Praja) were responsible for the management of purchasing and logistics, and that this matter should be discussed directly at our next meeting.

After the microphone returned to the dais, President Edward formally inducted Rtn. Masaharu Yukimoto (aka Yuki) to RC bali Nusa Dua. Our first meeting and already one new member! Great way to start the new Rotary Year… (see photo above).

Masaharu Yuki
Our newest member, Masaharu Yukimoto (Yuki), introduced himself to the club by giving an interesting and amusing slide show presentation of his life, travels and life-changing experiences, in Japan, the US and Bali. With 5 years of Rotary experience at RC Bali Seminyak before joining RCBND, he promises to be a popular and effective new member, and his induction was welcomed with loud applause.

Raffle
Raffle tickets of IDR 0,000 were sold – somehow, someone forgot to order new tickets. So sad… :-(

Fines
And, being the first meeting of the year, no fines were levied today.

With no further business to attend to President Edward thanked everyone for joining today and the meeting was adjourned at 2:10PM.
