Visiting Rotarians and Rotaract Members

Acting SAA MartinSmyth
Acting SAA Martin rang the bell and called the meeting to order at 1.00pm.

President Edward Naus
President Edward welcomed members and advised that our expected guests from Rotaract Club Bali Nusa Dua would be unable to attend the meeting because of conflicting and unexpected work commitments.

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
In his role as Treasurer Karl-Heinz advised the meeting that 18 of the 29 members had paid their Club dues and TRF contributions, and he thanked them for their prompt response. He reminded the meeting that he needed to be able to identify individual deposits to the Club account. If payment is made by ATM, the payee cannot be identified unless they present an ATM Receipt (original or photo) to the Treasurer.

And switching to his capacity as Chair of the Community Services Committee, Karl-Heinz also advised the meeting that he, PP Risto and PP Wes had met with Kolewa on Wed 19th to discuss their participation in the forthcoming Global Grant being prepared for the Cleft Lip and Palate Project (CLPP). They also met with another possible participating hospital (Prima Medika), to compare rates, services and previous history with operations of this type. These discussions are providing input to the MOU to be signed before the grant application can be submitted.

Rtn. Yuki
Rtn. Yuki advised the meeting that he had accepted an invitation to be the Chair of the International Services Committee, and was looking forward to this role. He asked if the Club has presentation or other materials to assist presentations to overseas Clubs and organisations.

Rtn. Henny Udy
The New Generation Chair Henny reminded the meeting of the forthcoming Rotaract Handover Dinner to be held on Saturday 22 July. As Chair of the Fund Raising Committee, she reminded the meeting of fund raising opportunities from possible 25th Anniversary activities. President Edward replied that these would be discussed at the coming Board meeting on August 3rd.

Rtn. Ari Murti
Rtn Ari suggested it might be useful to employ a PR advisor to help prepare some type of public presentation materials to promote RCBND during the 25th Anniversary Year.

Rtn Christine Velde
Rtn Christine asked whether the Club had available banners or other presentation materials that might be available for her forthcoming visit to Australia, where she hoped to be able to attend local Rotary meetings. IPP Dona replied that she had some materials she would be pleased to make available.

(Note: Members travelling overseas are encouraged to liaise with Yuki in the preparation of any such materials, to help build a resource for the Club for the future.)

PP Gary Phair
PP Gary advised that we would soon be asked to prepare an article about Club activities to be included in a new section, Rotary News, in the Bali Advertiser, with timing at this stage uncertain.

Rtn Christine offered to help in editing draft materials, because even though she would be on leave in Australia, this would not limit her ability to email drafts.

PP Katl-Heinz Schmelzer
Karl-Heinz further added:

  • That Rtn Reinhold Jantzen had offered the services of his Financial Controller to assist with the auditing of RCBND Financial Accounts for RY 2016/17.
  • Advised that PDG Pak Kuhn had advised the Club that his earlier shock resignation was due to a period of significant stress, and requested the Club to consider his readmission. While the general feeling was of significant regret at the situation, there are a number of potential complications that might constrain the decision of the Club, and of the District.

President Edward
President Edward advised the Club of the withdrawal of Axel Kniep from active membership of the Club, after an outstanding record of participation and support. While the Club will miss his involvement, we have benefitted greatly from his contributions, and wish him well in his future activities. The Club will also welcome his informal advice from time to time.

Then President Edward formally inducted Brian Booker as the newest Member of Rotary and Rotary Club Bali Nusa Dua. At the same time, the President took the opportunity to ask Brian to accept the (informal) position of Acting Sergeant-at-Arms for 3 months, an offer that was accepted if with a touch of mystification as to the nature of the Duties. It was suggested there would be no shortage of advisers. Welcome Rotarian Brian! :-)

Raffle tickets of IDR 600,000 were sold – The raffle was won by PP Martin, with the prize being a particularly charming Chinese ceramic rice bowl. Martin and other past winners owing prizes are reminded not to forget to make their contributions at forthcoming meetings.
