ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS

Acting SAA Risto Poskiparta
Acting SAA Dona rang the bell and called the meeting to order at 1.00pm.

President Edward Naus
President Edward ccalled the meeting to order at 1.00pm, and welcomed Members and visiting Rotarians from Holland, Germany and Singapore.

The microphone was then rotated so that members could provide relevant news and comment, or other pithy observations and insights. A selection of the more relevant are summarized below.

PP Gary Phair
PP Gary advised that he had posted photos of the Rotaract “Project Manuela” (referenced briefly in the Minutes of 31 August) on Facebook, and encouraged members to have a look to see how much the children participating in this low key but enjoyable activity enjoyed the opportunity

PP Wes
PP Wes reviewed recent work in completing the reporting of the CLP program, and commented on the difficulty being faced in achieving adequate reporting of the “bridging” operations performed by RSU Dharma Yadnya.

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
PP Harl-Heinz provided the additional information that bridging operations could be funded from the recent donation of Rp 28 mill from RC Como, but only if the date of operation was after the date of the donation.

Visiting Rtn Thomas Siebenson
Rtn Thomas (above photo, left) thanked RC Bali Nusa Dua members for welcoming him. His RC Club Schweinfurt has 55 members, and he likes to visit as many Rotary Clubs as possible when he is on annual holidays.

Visiting Rtn. Wolf Goettel
Rtn Wolf from RC Queenstown Singapore, was also pleased to be welcomed back, particularly since he had also tried to join the previous meeting on 31st Aug, but was turned away because it was a Club Assembly. He was pleased to have the opportunity to meet Thomas, who comes from his own home town, and may indeed be a distant relative! Small world, Rotary :-)

Later he recounted to your Secretary (from Queenstown NZ) that he had once found himself in the company of 3 other Rotarians from Queenstown – but from Queenstown South Africa, NZ and Canada. He admitted to not having met one yet from Tasmania.

Rtn. Ari Murti
Rtn Ibu Ari Murti had recently met with a group of HIV/AIDS affected mothers and babies at the Klinik Amerta, and conveyed to the meeting the warm thanks from Klinik Amerta for RCBND support for funding the baby milk program.

IPP Dona Poskiparta
IPP Dona advised that she had recently had a brief meeting with SMK1, and had prepared a draft MOU for the activity to provide scholarship funding for final year students. RCBND currently has IDR 18.5 juta, but Yuki has arranged another IDR 15 juta by donations (IDR 5 juta from each Yuki, Rtn Wim, and Yuki’s friend Jerry, who had recently attended the RCBND Fellowship dinner).

The donations will be made directly to the school, but will be used to augment the RCBND funding, and will help provide for up to 20 students. This very generous donation was acknowledged by warm applause!

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
PP and Treasurer Karl-Heinz advised that he and PP Wes had met with the CLP service delivery partners, to help finalise the draft revised MOU, which will be sent to Kolewa for their “peer review” prior to finalization in the coming week. This and the draft GG Application will be sent to Hazel Seeow for informal review before final submission.

Karl-Heinz also noted that by a series of coincidences he had come into contact with members of a Rotary Club from a small town in the Ruhr, Germany, and they have been approached to contribute to our new Global Grant. A decision on this is imminent.

President Edward Naus
In the absence of the Chair of the Fund Raising Committee, President Edward reported that this Committee had met on Wed 6th Sept to discuss fundraising activities for 2017/18. In summary:

  • The possibility of a small participation in a forthcoming Golf Tournament to be organised by BNGC was discussed, but this was likely to be limited to raffle activities at the post-match dinner;
  • In principle we have a commitment to a Silver Anniversary Gala Dinner, tentatively proposed to be held in early February at a major hotel in Nusa Dua;
  • The Rotary Golf Tournament was confirmed to be held in early April 2018;
  • Other possible activities were discussed, including a possible Tennis Tournament (little interest, because it is heavy on organization and light on potential revenue), and a “Bali Quest” – something like an organized “treasure hunt” around Bali, with great prizes – interesting concept, but also heavy on organizational requirements.

President Edward then exchanged banners with Rtn Thomas Siebenson from RC Schweinfurt (above photo, left).

PP Wes
Wes showed a short You Tube video about prosthetic limbs, and commended Members watch on YouTube by clicking on this link.

Raffle
Raffle tickets of IDR 700,000 were sold and Secretary Hugh was the winner. The prize was a Rotary golf shirt, but because this was too large a size for our slight Secretary, he donated it to a much larger Visiting Rotarian Wim. Nice…

Fines
No fines were levied today. :-)

There being no other business President Edward thanked everyone for joining today. The bell was rung and the meeting adjourned at 2:15 p.m
