Visiting Rotarians and Rotaract Members

Acting SAA Martin Smyth
Acting SAA Martin rang the bell and called the meeting to order at 1.00pm.

President Edward Naus
President Edward welcomed members, particularly Dr. Klaus-Otto Paehler, who had been absent overseas for some time. He continued with a summary of the recent District 3420 Meeting with all Bali Clubs on 29 September, to discuss the Gunung Agung Disaster Relief arrangements. The major messages of this meeting were:

  • Rotary District meeting was attended by 22 Rotarians from most Rotary Clubs in Bali;
  • A total of Rp 81 million had been collected up to that time, to be allocated for:
    • 1. Survival kits;

      2. Sanitation and medical assistance;

      3. Healing centre and social care activities;

      4. Installation of toilet & shower units – start with 4 units @ IDR 35 juta/per unit.
  • Rotary Dstrict will coordinate with Government Units and other Aid Institutions to create an inventory of needs, and roles for the various institutions including Rotary;
  • The Rotary Logo will be displayed where Rotary funds have contributed

President Edward added more donations are needed!

He then dispatched the “microphone” on its rational journey around the room for updates and comments.

Secretary’s note
The summary presentation provoked a long discussion among members about whether to make donations now, or to reserve until after any eruption, when a very much larger amount of funds would be needed. A general feeling emerged that we might consider delaying our contributions until after real needs were known.

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
PP Karl and current Treasurer advised the meeting that the Club is considering raising much-needed funds by selling off the 14,000+ TRF points that the Club had amassed, to individual Club Members, at a “discount” of 50%. This would then allow Members to apply for a Paul Harris Fellowship at a cost of $500 for the required 1000 TRF points, when it would normally cost $1,000 to accumulate these points. He noted that there are currently 14 Members who are not yet Paul Harris Fellowship holders, and that they should actively consider this opportunity.

President Edward
Lastly, President Edward advised that he would be absent on an overseas trip for around 3 weeks from 13th October to early November.

Raffle tickets of IDR 500,000 were sold and Rtn. Debra was the winner. The prize was a nice bottle of red wine. Debra and other past winners owing prizes are reminded not to forget to make their contributions at forthcoming meetings.

Another fine meeting…. (no fines were levied today).

There being no other business President Edward thanked everyone for joining today. The bell was rung and the meeting adjourned at 2:00p.m.
