ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS

SAA Martin Smyth
SAA Martin rang the bell and called the Club Assembly to order at 1.00pm.

President Edward Naus
President Edward welcomed Members to the last meeting for 2017. He reported that the Board had met that morning, also for the last time this year.

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
Treasurer Karl-Heinz reported in summary on the Club’s financial position:

  • Available cash in the usual bank accounts will be finished by the end of January;
  • Proposed to take funds out of fixed deposit for use on such an occasion, in the knowledge that current fundraising activities will replenish funds used in January;
  • Board approved the withdrawal of funds of Rp 100 mill from fixed deposit;
  • Board also approved expenditures by the 25th Anniversary Committee to a total of Rp 15 juta.

In his capacity as Chair of the Community Services Committee, PP Karl also reported that the GG Application had been submitted to RI, but that full approvals might take 2-3 months before funds became available. In the meantime, the Club funds required for our continuing commitment to providing bridging operations are considerable, and we have a significant need for effective fundraising in the first half of 2018.

PP Wes
PP Wes provided a brief summary of what was another wonderfully enjoyable Orphans Christmas Party. (Note: above photo is of YPAC students performing at the Orphanage Christmas Party.)

Responding to a question from Rtn David as to what happened to the handicapped children when they grew up, and where did they go, Wes admitted that he had only partial information, but that there are a number of institutions that provide support for handicapped adults.

In the past the club has initiated programs to help SLB-B. Of note “Silence is not a Barrier”, which trained deaf children as apprentices in various businesses. The program was aimed at parents as much as children to show that their children were capable of working in a variety positions.

PP Wes also mentioned that when the club first stated working with Sekolah Luar Biasa Bali (SLBB) some 25 years ago there was around 60 deaf students, but has now around 460, expanding its mandate from deaf to include autistic and mentally handicapped children.

Given the small numbers, there were no fines and no raffle, and the meeting concluded at 2.00pm.
