ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS

SAA Martin Smyth
SAA Martin rang the bell and called theMeeting to order at 1.00pm.

President Edward Naus
President Edward welcomed Members and our guest Rotarian to the first meeting for 2018. A particular welcome was extended to Ian Cameron, returning to Bali from Jogya for a visit and catch-up. Welcome also to Sally Bellmaine from RC Seminyak. Edward reported a busy start to the year, with a Club Services Committee meeting in the morning, and a 25th Anniversary Organizing Committee meeting to be held after the lunch meeting.

Rtn. Ian Cameron
Rtn Ian apologized for his long absence in Yogya, and noted how pleasant it was to be back amongst Rotarian friends. He advised that the Hotel Royal Ambarrukmo would be pleased to provide sponsorship for the 25th Anniversary, and his generosity was acknowledged by the members.

Rtn. Ari Murti
Rtn Ibu Ari advised that she had attended a meeting of the Muslim Council in Bali on the occasion of a Mother’s Day celebration, and was pleased to advise members that she had received an Award acknowledging her work in support of HIV/AIDS sufferers in Bali. This advice was warmly received and applauded by the members.

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
PP and this year’s Treasurer Karl-Heinz in his capacity as Chair of the Community Services Committee, reported that the Committee had met earlier in the day to review activity progress, which he was pleased to report were all running extremely effectively. Details will be provided at a later time.

He also advised that the GG Application:

  • The application has now been submitted to RI, but that full approvals might take 2-3 months before funds (around US$131,000) would become available.
  • Dave Lance, a previous member and now in RC Pittsburgh had arranged their participation, and RC Pittsburgh were contributing $40,000;
  • In the meantime, the Club funds required for our continuing commitment to providing bridging operations are considerable (Rp 700K per day), and we have a significant need for effective fundraising in the first half of 2018.

Sergeant at Arms
PP Martin taking on the role as Acting Sergeant at Arms advised that a number of members had won raffle prizes but had not yet provided a prize for the following meeting. Those suffering memory issues include: Rtns. Eddie (2) Michael and Debra. Puullleeeeaaaaaasssssseee bring your prizes…
