ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS

SAA Martin Smyth
SAA Martin rang the bell calling the Meeting to order at 1.00pm.

President Edward Naus
President Edward welcomed Members, and welcomed back our frequent visitor and good friend Rtn Wim, RC Zwartewatersteden, The Netherlands.

Edward advised that he and PP Wes had visited RC Bali Seminyak during their Wednesday Lunch meeting, and that they had already filled one table for the 25th Anniversary event, and were working to fill a second, which is very good news indeed!

He also advised that there had been a Guest Speaker at the meeting, who presented an extremely interesting talk on Observation Intelligence, and recommended that we follow this up for our next meeting. This was agreed, and the Secretary can report that a synopsis of the proposed presentation will be by Thomas S. Karat, an Austrian from origin but am living since 23 years in the Netherlands:

Professionally Thomas is a manager for Verizon (telecom). His teams of more than 30 people manage B2B data traffic for mostly fortune 500 multinational companies. For more detailed information feel free to have a look at his LinkedIn profile (Thomas.S.Karat).

    Topic:
How to utilize Emotional Intelligence and Nonverbal Communication for Deception Detection in formal and informal settings.

As this is a broad topic to cover and given the usually limited time available for the presentation within the framework of a lunch meeting Thomas will focus on an observation made by Darwin that was confirmed by modern science, the inhibition theory. That is to say that there are reliable muscle configurations in our face that operate outside of our volition so that they can be used as indicators for deception detection.

PP Martin Smyth
PP Martin told members that he had the sad responsibility to advise that our dear friend, PP Gary has been diagnosed with a virulent form of leukaemia, and would immediately begin treatment in Australia. The membership was shocked at this sad and unexpected news.

General Discussion
The focus of the meeting then moved to the emerging difficulties of selling enough tickets to the 25th Anniversary to make it worthwhile to continue. This matter would be pursued by the Organizing Committee in a separate meeting.

Raffle
No raffle was held, because PP Wes, after not winning a Weekly Raffle for the better part of a decade, forgot that he had won and did not bring a prize.

Fines
IDR 20,000 was again collected from Wes for his unfathomable transgression. :-(

There being no other business President Edward thanked everyone for joining today. The bell was rung and the meeting adjourned at 2:00p.m.
