Visiting Rotarians and Rotaract Members

SAA Martin Smyth
SAA Martin rang the bell calling the Meeting to order at 1.00pm.

President Edward Naus
President Edward welcomed Members who braved the rain and in-climate weather, observing that small is beautiful (as one might expect). He noted that the Committee meeting that had been planned to follow the lunch meeting had been cancelled at a late hour, because Henny was unwell. He proposed to invite a Guest Speaker to a forthcoming meeting – Mike O’Leary, of the ROLE Foundation. This suggestion was greeted enthusiastically.

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
PP Karl-Heinz reported that he and IPP Dona had attended a discussion on Saturday 27th Jan at the Rotary Leadership Institute, to discuss a District initiative to identify candidates to take up leadership roles to support Rotary administration and governance for the future.

Furthermore, in relation to our current application for a District Grant to support Puspadi Bali (prosthetic limbs), as of the 1st Feb, the District was allowed to submit their application for approval for proposed Grants to RI. This had previously not been possible because of delays by a single club in submitting a report of Grant expenditures. It is expected that funds might begin to flow in 1-2 months. In regard to this, the Treasurer asked for advice as to what are our recorded contributions to RI in the Goals section of the Rotary International website. Subsequently, the Secretary checked this and noted that RCBND is recorded as having contributed $2820 to Rotary Foundation.

As Treasurer, Karl-Heinz also noted that a personal friend had donated USD5,000 to support RC Bali Nusa Dua expenditure over the next 2-3 months – and that this is the second such contribution he has made! The question was raised whether a non-Rotarian was entitled to receive PHF Recognition Points for such donations, and Rtn Wes undertook to ask the RF Office, but thought that the answer would be “yes”. Clearly, the Club needs to make some gesture of appreciation for such generous support!

Rtn. Hugh Brown
The Secretary noted that he would be absent for Thursday lunch meetings on Feb 15, 22, March 1, 22 and 29th.

President Edward Naus
President Edward noted that there would be a President-Elect Training Seminar (PETS) Meeting on March 2/3, and that as neither the president-Elect or Secretary-Elect would be able to attend this meeting, a substitute participant would be needed to receive and then hand over the information to be conveyed to these positions. This matter would be discussed at the next Board Meeting. Also, a strategy for attracting new members needed to be prepared, also to be discussed at the next Board Meeting, date to be determined (8th or 15th February).

Finally, there will be a Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) meeting on 20-22 April. Usual practice is for RCBND to sponsor a Rotaract representative to participate in this, and if there is no obvious candidate, the District will select one to be sponsored by the Club. Rtn Henny is to discuss possible sponsorship and RYLA participation with Tiffany from our Rotaract.

No raffle today.

No fines today.

There being no other business President Edward thanked everyone for joining today. The bell was rung and the meeting adjourned at 2:25p.m.
