Visiting Rotarians and Rotaract Members

SAA Martin Smyth
SAA Martin rang the bell calling the Meeting to order at 1.00pm.

President Edward Naus
President Edward welcomed Members and mentioned that previous to this meeting, the Board held its monthly meeting.

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
PP Karl-Heinz stated that on 29 January the club received a VERY generous donation of USD 5k from Andre Pury. This is Mr. Pury’s second donation to the club, the first of which was incorporated in our most recent Global Grant application.

PP Karl-Heinz also mentioned that Rotary International and District dues have been paid.

Finally Karl-Heinz advised members that the Annual Golf Tournament has been rescheduled for 1 September. The first committee meeting for this event will be on 8 March. Karl-Heinz then asked PP Dona if she could contact Julia from Tori Golf to join the committee.

President Edward Naus
President Edward gave a brief summary of today’s Board Meeting.

A pressing concern is the status of P-E Yuki, i.e. whether or not he will be available to serve as President next year. Also there is a need now for Secretary for next year. PP Karl-Heinz has agreed to stay on as Treasurer. In the meantime, PP Karl- Heinz and PP Wes will represent the club at the upcoming PETS seminar, 2-3 March.

The Board also approved the funding to send one Rotaractor to RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership) and to pay the registration fees for two members to attend the upcoming District Conference in Semarang. Fwiw, Special Guest Speaker at the conference is reported to be Ibu Sri Mulyani Indrawati, 26th Finance Minister of Indonesia.

The Board also approved to a program to increase fellowship (and perhaps membership…?) by cancelling luncheon meetings on the fourth Thursday of every month and replacing it with an evening fellowship event – strictly no club business – just a casual get together with drinks and perhaps dinner. Each member will be assigned a Thursday in the upcoming months.

This idea/proposal was met with quite a favourable response and generated quite some discussion. The first such Fellowship evening will be 22 March. PP Dona volunteered to organise the first evening.

In the meantime, in lieu of no Guest Speaker available, from time to time we will find an interesting 9-12 minute “TED Talk” on YouTube and play through the AV equipment on hand.

With discussion over and a very enjoyable meal finished, PP Martin donned the SAA sash and drew the raffle…

Raffle tickets of IDR 600,000 were sold and a lovely dessert wine, Pino di Bali by Hatten Wines (above photo), was won PP Karl-Heinz. Karl-Heinz and other past winners owing prizes are reminded not to forget to make their contributions at forthcoming meetings.

Fines of IDR 20,000.- were levied for all and sundry offences.

There being no other business President Edward thanked everyone for joining today. The bell was rung and the meeting adjourned at 2:00p.m.
