ANNOUNCEMENTS, REPORTS

SAA Martin Smyth
SAA Martin rang the bell calling the Meeting to order at 1.00pm.

President Edward Naus
President Edward welcomed all 4 other Members, and guests David Kuper, a previous member and a leading participant in several major RCBND projects, was welcomed back and thanked for also joining the 25th Anniversary celebrations and Dr Soe The was also welcomed as a frequent visitor.

The President then referred to the results of the Club Assembly on April 12th, at which candidates had been elected to the Board for 2018-19, and a subsequent meeting at which the incoming Board appointed candidates to Board positions. He advised the meeting that the following appointments had been made:

    President, Hugh Brown
    Vice President, PP Eddie Fitzgerald
    Treasurer, PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
    Secretary, PP Wes
    TRF Chair, PP Michael Burchett
    Director, PP Martin Smyth
    IPP, PP Edward Naus

The President also mentioned to the discussion at the Club Assembly regarding proposed changes to the monthly schedule of Lunch Meetings, and suggested the matter would be revisited by the new Board.

The President advised Members that the Board would soon meet to appoint Committee Chairs for RI 2018-19. He encouraged Members to consider contributing to these roles, because the Club needs a more active member engagement if it is to continue running effective programs.

In concluding his opening remarks, the President gave a brief overview of the very successful 25th Anniversary Event of the previous Saturday, and thanked the Organizing Committee and its Chair, Henny Udy, for an excellent outcome.

The roving “Metaphorical Mike” was circulated for observations from the Meeting:

Visiting Guest David Kuper
David Kuper congratulated the Club on the excellent organization of the 25th Anniversary;

Rtn Gerrit Ten Veen
Rtn Gerrit Ten Veen advised that he would be attending the District Conference to be held in Semarang on May 11th/12th May;

P-E Hugh Brown
Secretary Hugh advised that he and Rtn Henny also hoped to be able to attend, but had yet to make the required arrangements;

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
PP and Treasurer Karl-Heinz advised that the Global Grant had now been formally approved, and funds would begin to flow “soon”. It was expected that funds would be made available in two “tranches”, with the 2nd possibly to be paid pending the results of a (probable) audit of the results/performance of the 1st.

PP Wes
PP Wes asked if the details of the incoming Board had been advised to RI? (Yes). He also asked attendees to the District Conference to check the DC Book, to see if our paid advertisement had been published?

Responding to a request from the President, PP Wes also reminded the meeting of previous discussions about a possible Grant n 2019-20 via the District of Hawaii: Large grant ($100,000 +) likely to be provided to Rotary Bali, possibly under RCBND management Need large project that could involve other Clubs
Revisiting the previous Bali Blood Bank project to see how this might be repackaged to suit?

Rtn. Ari Murti
Rtn Ibu Ari Murti shocked the meeting by announcing that she was not in good health, and would soon have to hand over her HIV/AIDS projects and responsibilities to another member. Board needs to give careful consideration to how such a transition might be handled;

Visiting Guest Dr Sue The
Dr Sue The asked if RCBND might be interested to support a research project with Uni Yogya, related to organic chicken farming? It was noted that some commercial chicken farms had more than 1 million laying hens, and the scale of such activity might make a university research project a little irrelevant? It was also noted that as a Bali Club, we may be restricted in active engagements outside Bali?

With discussion over and a very enjoyable meal finished, President Edward exchanged banners with our Visiting Rotarian Guests.
