PP and current SAA Martin rang the bell calling the Meeting to order promptly at 1.00pm.

President Edward Naus
President Edward welcomed 7 other Members and no guests – a very small gathering!

Last week a Rotarian from Brasil, Carlos Canero of RC Mage Prabeta of Rio De Janeiro wished to attend our weekly meeting. However since there was an Indonesian Public Holiday and no regular meeting P. Edward visited him at his hotel in Uluwatu. Rtn. Carlos Canero generously donated Aus. $200.- to our club to pay for a cleft operation. After receiving our Club banner he handed his Club Trophy to President Edward.

The roving “Metaphorical Mike” was then circulated for news, views and camaraderie.

PP Martin Smyth
Donning his Club Service Director’s hat, PP Martin Smyth, informed that he had asked for assistance to organise the Fellowship Dinner on 24th May and that member Gerrit Ten Veen volunteered.

Rtn. Gerrit Ten Veen
Gerrit Ten veen informed that the selected venue for the Fellowship Dinner will be Kat’s Kitchen on Jl. Raya Uluwatu 2, Jimbaran, with fellowship starting at 6.30 pm and dinner at 7.00 pm.

Though it specialises in Thai cuisine, they also offer a variety of western dishes. All F & B is of good quality with moderate prices. RC Bali Nusa Dua will get free corkage for 5 bottles of wine. The details about the restaurant, its menu and prices, corkage fee for additional wine bottles and its location will be sent to all members this week.

Visiting Rtn. Willem van Rijswijk
Guest Rtn Willem van Rijswijk of RC Zwartewatersteden in the province Overijssel in the Netherlands has been a frequent visitor to our club and his club supported our club projects with donations. He mentioned that he feels at home in Bali and is attached to our club and that he often will keep attending our meetings.

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
Treasurer PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer informed about following subjects:

  • The first payment of the RI Grant of USD 13!,000.- will be USD 88,000.- of which our club already received USD 10,300.- . During early June we can expect the first big payment of USD 88,000.-
  • One of the German Rotary Clubs our club has close relations with, Cologne Capital, wishes to continue donating funds for our projects.
  • The Golf Tournement will be held on 1st September ’18 and after the regular lunch meeting on 31st May the board and Golf Committee will have their meeting. The ticket price for the Golf Tournement will be slightly increased to approx. USD 110.-
  • Financial proceeds of the Gala Dinner of 21st April ; Though some loss occurred on the sale of entrance tickets, it was made up by the successful wine sales and Raffle sales. A total of 172 tickets were sold with an average price of Rp.620,000.-
  • On Thursday 24th May at 5.00 pm, the Membership Committee will have a meeting at Kat’s Kitchen, after which the Fellowship Dinner will start at 6.30 pm.
  • Karl-Heinz informed that the club would refund the Semarang District Conference fee of 2 Tickets, which will be equally devided by the 3 participating members, PE Hugh Brown, Rtn Henny Brown and Rtn Gerrit Ten Veen.

Rtn. Gerrit Ten Veen
After the announcements Gerrit Ten Veen briefly explained about the Rotary District 3420 in Semarang, held at the Crown Plaza Hotel on 10 and 11 May last week and showed some pictures of the event. RC Bali Nusa Dua was represented by 3 members, PE Hugh Brown with his wife Rtn Henny Brown and Rtn Gerrit Ten Veen.

The Rotary District Conference 2018 was excellently organised by Organizing Committee Chair Cindy Bachtiar and her committee members with the support of DG Hermanto Angka, IPDG Ni Nyoman Nilawati, various PDG’s and DGE I Wayan Suryawan. Almost 60 Bali Rotarians attended the conference.

Special social highlights were the Fellowship Dinner at the ancient Sam Poo Kong temple on Thursday 10th May, the Welcome Dinner at the Town hall by the Mayor’s Representative on 11th May and the Governor Banquet Dinner on 12th May.

Special guests were RI PR PDG David Alexander and his spouse Denise of RC of Manningham, D9810 Melbourne-Australia. He welcomed the Rotary participants in the name of RI Chairman Ian Riseley & Sp. Juliet Riseley.

Young exchange students from 9 countries; Brasil , Mexico,United States, Japan, France, Germany, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands excellently performed many Chinese dances in traditional Chinese costumes during the entire conference.

Key note Speakers were the Entrepreneurs Kusumo Martanto, CEO of Blibli.com, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, a Culinary Young Entrepreneur and son of Pres. Jokowi . As last Key Note Speaker the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi held an impressive speech about her engagements in International Affairs and the increasing important role of women in international diplomacy.

With discussion over and a very enjoyable meal finished, PP and SAA Martin took the floor to draw the raffle.

There being no other business President Edward thanked everyone for joining today. The bell was rung and the meeting adjourned promptly at 2:00p.m.
