District Governor I Wayan Suryawan
DG Wayan (above photo third fourth from right) mentioned that he attended the RI Convention in Toronto, Canada 23-27 June and met with RC Honolulu Sunrise member Eberhard Mann to briefly discuss possiblity of our two District’s collaborating on a project while PP Eric is DG. A meeting following lunch is scheduled to further discuss the possibility.

DG gave a brief overview of his experiences in Rotary…and how Rotary not only changed his life but also formed his life. DG Wayan first joined the Rotary family in 1983 as a member of the Rotaract Club of Denpasar. (Btw, there was only only Rotary Club on Bali in 1983, RC Bali Denpasar.) In 1993 he was Group Study Exchange participant before moving to Bandung in West Java and a Charter Member of RC Bandung in 1996. Fast forward a few years and Wayan returned to Bali and started a business with his wife – whom he met in Rotaract!

DG Wayan reported that he had met with the club’s Board of Directors prior to the meeting and RC Bali Nusa Dua has always been and continues to be a one of the leading clubs on Bali. Then Wayan asked ‘what does it take to have a successful club for so many years’? A good core of committed Rotarians, Passion to Serve and Good Projects.

DG Wayan reminded everyone that this year’s RI Theme is “Be The Inspiration”. DG Wayan then told a story about a 45 year old woman he met in Semarang, Central Java. Many years ago the woman was working as a radio announcer when one day someone came to her Kost-Kostan (rented room) asking for help. It was an 8 year old child. A while later she was asked to take care of a young baby. She didn’t know what to do but could not say ‘no’. She now takes care of 140 children. The woman is certainly an inspiration; mores as she suffers from a disease that has left her blind.

After exchanging banners with President Hugh, it was time for the SAA to take the floor. Unfortunately there was no prize this week and hence no Raffle but that did not deter SAA Edward, who one upped Martin’s strong performance on week one and fined everyone 20,000.

There being no other business President Hugh thanked everyone for joining today. The bell was rung and the meeting adjourned at 2:10p.m.
