Visiting Rotarians and Rotaract Members
Rtn. Wolf Goettel, RC Queenstown, Singapore

SAA Edward Naus
SAA Edward rang the bell calling the Meeting to order at 1.00pm.

President Hugh Brown
President Hugh gave a warm welcome to everyone able to attend today and bon voyage to Visiting Rtn. Wolf Goettel who will be returning home to Singapore in a couple days.

President Hugh urged everyone to help PP Karl, who has done lot of work on our Charity Golf Tournament, with a last minute push to invite friends to play and join the Awards Dinner.

President then mentioned that he and Henny will need to be away for two weeks. VP Eddie Fitzgerald has been asked to fill in for meetings on the 13th and 30th.

Finally President Hugh reported that he had attend a very well organised District 3420 conference on Membership Development. Following up the conference President Hugh will designate October through December as RCBND membership months. While he is away he is asking members to begin questioning how the club can build membership. Goal is a minimum of 5 new members, but really need to add 10-15 to have 25 active members (it’s too much work now for the 7-10 active members…).

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
Wearing his hat as Golf Committee Chairman PP Karl said that we are now in the final stages of preparation with just two days to go. Have 58 golfers confirmed, should have about 90 ultimately play. Important for our sponsors to have a good turnout so please invite any friends who golf and encourage them to play.

Switching hats to Treasurer, all members have now paid dues et al; now all that is need to close the books for August is the Global Grant statement.

PP Dona Poskiparta
PP Dona, replying President Hugh, thought that inducting 10-15 members in one year is too high a target, as the most ne members we’ve ever inducted in one year was eight. A better goal might be 5-8 and we should use the upcoming Awards Dinner on Saturday night a opportunity to recruit.

Rtn. Axel Kneip
Rtn. Axel suggested we have a open door meeting where anyone can join, no need to be invited as a guest.

PP Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
Wrt membership, every member should be required to introduce and induct one new member every year.

Visiting Rtn. Wolf Goettel
Rtn. Wolf stated that his club, RC Queenstown, Singapore had 50 members and thought that this is the correct number. More, it becomes impersonal, less there are not enough members to carry out the club’s goals. To promote camaraderie and interest new members his club has Sunday Walk-About (outing), Friends of Rotary which are not active members but contribute / provide about 60% of the club’s funding needs every year and (of course….) regular get togethers at Happy Hours.

PP Edward Naus
PP Edward asked about the an email from Indian Rotarians planning to visit Bali around Christmas. President Hugh mentioned that he replied that he can not commit at this time and suggested that it is not the best time as the club members are away and there are no meetings at the end of year, beginning of the next.

PP Risto Poskiparta
PP Risto predicted 90 players for the tournament and announced that he has 40 golf shirts and and hats fro last year and will donate to Lombok.

Rtn. Gerrit Ten Veen
Rtn. Gerrit gave a brief run-down of the International Rotary Day he organised with visiting clubs from India at the Taman Bhagawan. Fantastic support from the Rotaract Clubs of Bali to produce a great night of friendship.

Gerrit mentioned that we have several guest speakers lined up but… if someday one can not make it perhaps a member can give a talk on a subject that interests him/her.

PP Dona Poskiparta
Dona asked ‘Have we ever asked members about what subject they are interested?’ hmm… good question.

PP Wes
PP Wes reported that he was at RSU Dharma Yadnya yesterday and met again with dr. Henk and asked what was the one memory he would take home. Dr. Henk replied that when the older patients wake up from cleft lip surgery the first thing they do is take a selfie, next they call their father back in the village and tell him “I’m pretty / handsome now papa”. Makes it all worth while.

Next PP Wes reminded everyone that he sent out an email that the Rotary International Convention will be in Hamburg, Germany next year 1-5 June. There’s a good chance DGE D5000 Eric Kaler will be there and since many of us may be in Europe we should look to attending. And… btw, PP Wes has received a couple email promotions from KLM and Qatar with some SUPER fares for early bookings.

And finally, speaking of fellowship, when and where is this month’s fellowship dinner. It was originally planned that members would take turns organising. So…?

Visiting Rtn. Wold Goettel
Rtn. Wolf had the last word today as his Bali holiday draws to a close, D.V. he will return again next year. In the meantime just fyi… his club is a sister clubs with Jakarta Selatan and Bandung – but not, unfortunately, with any club on Bali – doing CLP operations on Bintan, cataract operations and helping to build a school in Bandung.

And with the metaphorical mic coming to rest it was time for SAA Edward Naus to draw the raffle.

Raffle tickets of IDR 700,000 were sold with PP Risto winning a bottle of red wine. Congratulations Risto. PP Risto and other past winners still owing prizes were reminded not to forget to make their contributions at forthcoming meetings.

Also another fine Thursday afternoon with no Fines… ;-)

There being no other business President Hugh thanked everyone for joining today. The bell was rung and the meeting promptly adjourned at 2:00p.m.
