Rtn. Gerrit Ten Veen
Rtn. Gerrit remarked how nice the fellowship dinners were last week first with many friends from Seminyak joining us at Nusa Dua Grill on Thursday and then on Friday a large contingent of Nusa Doers attending Seminyak’s BBQ evening! Good stuff.

Visiting Rotarian Wim Van Rijswyk
Good to be back (again)!

IPP Edward Naus
SAA Edward announced that the raffle had raised IDR 1,050,000 today.

PP Wes
PP Wes provided a quick overvie and update on the status of proposed Global Grant with RC Honolulu Sunrise and District 5000. Will meet with Bali Blood Bank management to finalise the Community Assessment and once complete will forward to our partners and potential donors. As well when our Global Grants Officer, Ms. Sadaf, visits Indonesia in early December to review our GG Cleft Lip and Palate Project we will present to her the Community Assessment Form for her review and comment.

Visiting Rotarian Sally Bellmaine
Sally announced that the Melbourne Cup fundraiser at Finns in Canggu was a smashing success (even if she didn’t win the prize for best bonnet).

Visiting Rtn Clive Hale
Rtn. Clive gave a brief overview of his club and activities. Smack in the middle of Australia with a population of 25,000 Alice Springs boasts three Rotary Clubs. As elsewhere wrestling with membership issues and are experimenting with e-meetings to attract the youth in the area. His club also organises a Melbourne Cup fund raiser every year but the Big Draw is the Tod River Boat Race. Never mind water only runs 3 days a year people carry their boats and run down the dry river bed. Sounds like fun!!

Bpk. I Nyoman Supharta and Bpk. Wayan Budiasa, SMKN1 Nusa Dua/span>
Bpk. Nyoman began with a brief introduction of SMKN1 Nusa Dua. It is a speciality school (Vocational School) for high school students who can not afford or do not want to attend university. Speciality training is given in hospitality studies, electrical engineering etc. Currently there are 1818 students and a faculty of 103 teachers.

Bpk Nyoman thanked RCBND for providing scholarships to the seniors in the school so that they may finish their studies, graduate and begin working and help support their families. Many students graduate and find employment in hotels

The children selected for scholarships have good grades, good language skill but are economically disadvantaged because one parent is not present in the household or ill.

Bpk Wayan stated that they do not turn away any students who want to attend. As such that there are about 110 graduates who haven’t yet paid (and thus received) their diploma because they are too poor and have yet to pay their school fees. The result is many either can’t get jobs or can not get the job they trained for (andre often underpaid). Bpk Wayan asked that members try to help these students.invited all members to visit the school which is located very close by in Nusa Dua on Jalan By Pass.

A big round of applause was given and we will be visiting the school soon.

Then it was SAA time with PP Edward…

Raffle tickets of IDR 1050,000 were sold with PP Martin Smyth winning a bottle of Kaikken Marbec wine. Congratulations Martin. PP Martin and other past winners still owing prizes were reminded not to forget to make their contributions at forthcoming meetings.

Also another fine Thursday afternoon with no Fines… ;-)

There being no other business President Hugh thanked everyone for joining today. The bell was rung and the meeting adjourned at 2:15p.m.
