3400 is organising campaign to collect money to help a survivors
on the island of Nias recover from the devastating earthquake
and resulting Tsunami on 26 December 2004 that has claimed more
than 27,000 lives as of this writing.
Below is an open letter from District Governor 3400 Ibu Dr.
Ritje Rihatinah requesting all Rotarians and friends of Rotarians
of District 3400 (and beyond) to donate to this special cause:

(1) Disaster in Indonesia
An earthquake measuring 8,5 on the Richter scale struck Nanggroe
Aceh Darussalam on Sunday (Dec 26th, 2004) morning causing a
tsunami that killed at least 5,000 people. The earthquake occurred
on Indian Ocean (near Sumatra island) also caused the same tsunami
on South Asian and South East Asian countries, such as Phuket
(Thailand), India, Srilanka, Maldive, and west of Malaysia.
Six thousand people in those areas were killed.
One of the islands struck by the tsunami is Nias, and the Disaster
Relief Office in Medan reported that 75 people were killed and
32 are missing.
Rotary International District 3400 pays great concern to Nias
Island and is going to deliver medicine relieves and medical
team. All Rotarian are requested to give a help to people of
Nias through District 3400s bank account.
