President Bruce Jellard opened the meeting welcoming the District Governor and his wife, the guests, the guest speakers and Rotaract and thanking the members for their attendance.

He then summarized what was discussed in the ealier meetings with the DG:

• The principal ongoing project is the Cleft Lip and Palate operations for which funding could be secured for the next two years representing about 150 operations.
• There are also two ongoing HIV projects, food sublements for children of HIV positiv mothers and training of mid wifes.

• Bali Clean & Green which is joint project of the majority of the RC of Bali and several other NGO’s with following upcoming events.

27  August       Cleaning of beaches

30  August       Press conference under participation of the Governor

20  September  Clean up Bali focusing on inland areas

20 October      Cleaning of mountains and rivers

The funds to be raised at this year Charity Golf Tournament to take place on 30 October will be dedicated to enviromental projects under the motto Bali Clean & Green.

Neil Hempsey and Cilian Budarlaigh

Explained that Indo Yacht Support is a shore based motor yacht support organisation associated with Yacht Aid Global the latter being is a charitable organization utilizing the luxury yacht fleet to help communities in need.

The recently held charity event raised USD 10.000,–which will and have been used for a street children project in Denpasar.

Indo Yacht Support is also actively pursuing the establishing of Bali as a service hub for super and mega yachts and believe that this will be benefical for the Bali economy.

She reported of Rotaract BND having raised funds from the sales of towels donated by the Conrad Hotel.

AL Purwa

So far he has visited 36 clubs with over 50 still on this agenda. Every club is different. Rather of having more clubs he wants every club to grow bigger and be better and bolder. He reminded to take care of timely regeneration focusing on young Indonesian women familiar with modern communication tools . He calls them netizens. He recommends to add several new members at a time so that they –as a group- can be better integrated into the club. There must be friendship in a club, without friendship a club will be doomed.

He thinks RCBND a vibrant club, better than many others. Given its fund raising capacity he believes the club should pursue a large, high impact project, easy to see and workable long term. Be bold, think big.

Join forces with others. As sample he gave the Bali Blood Bank. The result can been seen at Sangla hospital.

Seeing the banners of so many clubs decorating our meeting room he said:

“ When you need funds for a project write to them, many will be prepared to give”.

President Bruce Jellard thanked the governor for his words and for visiting our club. The club will make an all out effort attempting to share his vision.

Raffle:

Tickets for IDR 400.000 were being sold. Captain Neil Hempsey won a pearl bracelet brought by past winner Priti Kapur. There are now no more Raffle prices on stock. Past winners owing prices are herewith reminded to bring one or if they can not come to the next meeting send a price. All members are encouraged to donate a Raffle price to help built up a stock.

President Bruce Jellard opened the meeting welcoming the visitors and the guests and thanking the members for their attendance (especially Jeff’s sudden attendance).

Bruce summarized what was discussed in the ealier meeting with the Board about the new venue for the club’s luncheon meetings:

• thanking Jean-Charles le Coz and Nikko Bali Resort for having generously been hosting RCBND luncheon meetings already some 3 years, and it is time to move forward.
• informing that the Board has accepted an offer from Michael Burchett to move the club lucheon meetings into Conrad Bali, “Spice restaurant” from October 7th, 2010 onwards. The cost of three course served lunch will be Rp 140,000 nett/pax and the drinks are 50% off from the list price.

Bruce also delivered a copy of an article of HIV Testing and Counceling from Bali Post newspaper. Good publicity.

He then asked the board and floor to present or raise points of common interest.

An additional Rp 10 million has been paid for Bali Clean and Green project, totaling Rp 30 million so far.

Jo also reminded about the press conference on Monday, 30th August at 10:30 in Sanur Paradise Hotel.

Michael Burchett

Michael introduced his guest Tom O’Brien from Mandarin Media. Tom will start to help the club especially in Bali Clean & Green project and also in general helping RCBND.

He also reminded about “clean up beaches in Bali”-day on 27th August.

Tom O’Brien

Tom told about intended activities of Mandarin Media in Bali. Tom has a long experience in Asian countries like Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. He raised the need to work close with the hotel and golf industry to get good back ground info when building media network.

He informed that Tennis and Community Service Committees have been in session before the meeting.

Frank Liepmann

He has taken up a new assignment which will necessitate prolonged absence from Bali. He will remain a member of the club but expects that today was his last regular attendance for some time. He introduced

Martin Aeschlimann, his successor at the Ayodya Hotel and a potential candidate for RCBND.

Bali is his permanent base since 1992 and he knows some of founding members of the club.

He will be travelling again, today being his last meeting. He will return by end of November.

On 17/18 September will be seminars at Sanur Paradise Hotel, one under the motto Bigger, Bolder, Better and one on Public Relation.

Early bird tickets are still available for IDR 200.000 for each seminar.

Jeff Anderson

Nunie Kneip is one of the driving forces behind Clean up Bali. Everything is looking positive. There will be a fund raiser on 13 August at the Anantara Hotel organized by RC Bali Seminyak.

RCBND will be assigned the cleaning of beaches Benoa, Nusa Dua and Geger Beach. Volunteers are needed for this event on 20 September.

He is active chasing sponsors for the Charity Golf Tournament in September.

Edward Naus

As the past Raffle price winner he brought a painting of two Balinese beauties.

The BHA (of which he is the chairman) is actively supporting the Bali Clean & Green events.

The Tennis organizing Committee had meeting this morning with Alex of Pure Tennis discussing the operational aspects and set up of the coming tennis tournament.

The Community Service committee met before this meeting considering a couple of projects including cleft lip prevention and water purification.

He informed about the intended visit of the DG Al Purwa on 19 August.

Risto Poskiparta has agreed to act as the relief secretary during his absence 20 August to 8 September.

The organizing committee for the Charity Golf Tournament is in the process of identifying the main sponsor. It is likely now that the tournament will have to be postponed by 1 or 2 weeks. All funds will be earmarked for an environmental project under the motto Bali Clean & Green.

President Bruce Jellard opened the meeting welcoming the guests and thanking the members for their attendance. He than briefed the members on points of special note from the Board meeting held before the luncheon meeting.

v Charity Golf tournament 2010

The proceeds from this year’s charity golf tournament shall be designated to an environmental project under the topic Bali Clean & Green which could become an ongoing engagement of the club.

v Bali Clean & Green

There are several coming events:

•         27 August: Cleaning of Bali beaches

•         30 August: Press conference by Governor, DG Rotary, BLH

•         20 September: World Clean up day, cleaning of Bali’s inland areas

v The Community Service Committee will meet 12 August at 11.00.

v The Tennis Organizing Committee will meet with “Pure Tennis” on 12 August 10.00, an organization which is hoped can assist in running next year’s tennis tournament.

v The proceeds from the golf tournament “Bali is my life” held on 12 June have been earmarked for the purchase of three ShelterBoxes in the amount IDR 30.000.000.

The transfer of TRF money of USD 100, — per member has been made. Members still owing dues for RY 2010/11 are reminded not to delay their payment any further.

Rayna Rumley

Is here on a short term assignment to help hearing impaired children at LUMINA deaf school. Jim Renshaw of AIM is training staff of the deaf school in calibration of hearing aids. LUMINA is a commercial centre that provides hearing testing and also has a non-profit foundation called Yayasan Corti.

Mercia Inkiriwang

On 17/18 September there will be a membership training seminar in Sanur Paradise Hotel under the motto Bigger, Bolder, Better.

On 18-21 November there will be a Zone Institute meeting in Bangkok.

Next year’s Zone Institute meeting will be held at the Grand Hyatt in Bali in the time 2-4 December 2011. Bruce Jellard and she are assigned to the organizing committee.

Nunie Kneip

Nine volunteers from the members will be required as supervisors in the Bali Clean & Green event on 20 September. Karl-Heinz Schmelzer agreed to volunteer.

Frank Liepmann

Gave a brief overview of his life. He worked for the Steigenberger Hotel group, the Marriott, the Ayodia in Bali and is looking forward to his new assignment with a Singaporean property development company.

There were 8 cleft lip and palate operations last month and there will be 5 this month.

Finally RI could trace the TRF funds of USD 2700,–and will allocate them to 27 of our members.

An update on past activities of Rotaract were given which included the Board change over at Kebun Raya Bedugul on 4 July, attending a mini seminar on “Leading by the Youth” on 10 July, participating in an OMG (outing, meeting, gathering) event in Ubud on 18 July and organizing a dog fashion show as a fund raising event on 25 July.

Nunie Kneip

Rotary Club Bali Seminyak will organize a fund raising event for the Bali Clean up Day at the Anantara Hotel in Seminyak with musician Carton J. Smith. Tickets will be sold at IDR 250.000,-.More details are to follow.

Gary Phair

Introduced his friend Peter Wallace from Jakarta who is about to take up residency in Bali.

The HIV midwife training program launched recently is being replicated by BIWA covering the training of 40 midwifes.

Bruce Jellard

The Rotary Charity Golf Tournament shall raise funds to improve the environmental situation in Bali as a follow up of the Bali Clean up Day.

Sponsors will be approached shortly for which however a more detailed charity topic and a logo will be needed.

Bipan Kapur

Presented “This is my Life”. Borne, raised and educated in Delhi, he decided to enter the hospitality business. He started his career with the Oberoi group, went to France to complete his studies, migrated to Australia, worked there and in other countries for the Sheraton group and is now the GM of the Westin in Nusa Dua.
