ANNOUNCEMENT, REPORTS

President Bruce Jellard opened the meeting welcoming the District Governor and his wife, the guests, the guest speakers and Rotaract and thanking the members for their attendance.

He then summarized what was discussed in the ealier meetings with the DG:

• The principal ongoing project is the Cleft Lip and Palate operations for which funding could be secured for the next two years representing about 150 operations.
• There are also two ongoing HIV projects, food sublements for children of HIV positiv mothers and training of mid wifes.

• Bali Clean & Green which is joint project of the majority of the RC of Bali and several other NGO’s with following upcoming events.

27  August       Cleaning of beaches

30  August       Press conference under participation of the Governor

20  September  Clean up Bali focusing on inland areas

20 October      Cleaning of mountains and rivers

The funds to be raised at this year Charity Golf Tournament to take place on 30 October will be dedicated to enviromental projects under the motto Bali Clean & Green.

Neil Hempsey and Cilian Budarlaigh

Explained that Indo Yacht Support is a shore based motor yacht support organisation associated with Yacht Aid Global the latter being is a charitable organization utilizing the luxury yacht fleet to help communities in need.

The recently held charity event raised USD 10.000,–which will and have been used for a street children project in Denpasar.

Indo Yacht Support is also actively pursuing the establishing of Bali as a service hub for super and mega yachts and believe that this will be benefical for the Bali economy.

She reported of Rotaract BND having raised funds from the sales of towels donated by the Conrad Hotel.

AL Purwa

So far he has visited 36 clubs with over 50 still on this agenda. Every club is different. Rather of having more clubs he wants every club to grow bigger and be better and bolder. He reminded to take care of timely regeneration focusing on young Indonesian women familiar with modern communication tools . He calls them netizens. He recommends to add several new members at a time so that they –as a group- can be better integrated into the club. There must be friendship in a club, without friendship a club will be doomed.

He thinks RCBND a vibrant club, better than many others. Given its fund raising capacity he believes the club should pursue a large, high impact project, easy to see and workable long term. Be bold, think big.

Join forces with others. As sample he gave the Bali Blood Bank. The result can been seen at Sangla hospital.

Seeing the banners of so many clubs decorating our meeting room he said:

“ When you need funds for a project write to them, many will be prepared to give”.

President Bruce Jellard thanked the governor for his words and for visiting our club. The club will make an all out effort attempting to share his vision.

Raffle:

Tickets for IDR 400.000 were being sold. Captain Neil Hempsey won a pearl bracelet brought by past winner Priti Kapur. There are now no more Raffle prices on stock. Past winners owing prices are herewith reminded to bring one or if they can not come to the next meeting send a price. All members are encouraged to donate a Raffle price to help built up a stock.

Fines:     Fines of IDR 70.000,–were being collected.

President Martin Smyth

President Martin Smyth opened the meeting by welcoming the visitors and thanking the members for their attendance.

President martin informed that there are still tickets available for the “Rotaract Charity dinner” on Friday 05.02 as from 06.30 p.m. at Peninsula Beach Resort. Due to this event to which he encourages each member to support, there will be no lunch on Thursday 04.02. Attendance to the Roataract dinner will be a “Make-up”.

He then asked the board and floor to present or raise points of common interest.

President Martin Smyth

President Martin opened the meeting by welcoming the guest and visitors and thanking the members for their attendance. He gave a short summary of the New Year Launching Party for those who could not be there and thanked once more Jean Charles Le Coz for his outstanding contribution to making it a big success. He continued with outlining the areas in which he encouraged the members to vigorously develop projects in the time ahead:

• Peace and conflict prevention
• Disease prevention and treatment
• Water and sanitation
• Maternal and child health
• Basic education and literacy
• Economic and community development

He then asked the board and floor to present or raise points of common interest.

1. Two cleft lip operations having taken place during last week.
2. The semi-annual dues in the amount of USD 1.350,90 had been transferred and their receipt acknowledged

Axel Kneip
Informed that he will be on leave as of next meeting until his return to Bali middle of May.

Ari Murti
Reported the success story of a child having gained substantially in weight after 6 months under care in the HIV scheme.

Risto Poskiparta
Informed that he feels happy and privileged to have become a member in the RCBND.

Jon Zuecher
Informed about the Rotaract Gala Dinner to take place on 5 February with details to be provided by Rotaract President Sri Ratikah.

Sri Ratikah
Informed that Rotaract Bali Nusa Dua is organizing a Charity Dinner as a fund raising event for orphanages on Friday 5 February 2010 at the Peninsula Resort, Tanjung Benoa. Proceeds will go to the children library and hoped for strong support from RCBND. Sponsoring of prices for the planned auction will be most welcome.

Edward Naus
thanked Carlos Vinas for the generous sponsoring of two prices for the New Year Launching Party’s Raffle draw. He believes to have been falsely accused of being a crooner.

Mimi Inkiriwang
Informed that the surplus from the Orphanage party had been donated to Rotaract.

Dave Lance
Informed that the Community Service members have been in session prior to this meeting.

Karl-Heinz Schmelzer
Outlined that in place of the regular luncheon meeting of 4 February the members are encouraged to follow the invitation of Rotaract to their Gala Charity Dinner taking place at the Peninsula Hotel, Benoa on 5 February. Tickets for the evening at IDR 150.000 per person are for sale now and will continue to be available with Rotaract or him. Members are encouraged to sponsor prices and bring spare children books for the mobile library run by Rotaract

Michael Burchett
Provided an update on guest speakers:

11 February: No speaker due to Board meeting
18 February: He encouraged members to volunteer as guest speaker as otherwise the speaker to be “volunteered” by him.

Michael is of the opinion that RI’s current month’s magazine The Rotarian is worthwhile reading.

Michael brought a banner from RC Toowoomba East, Queensland Australia.

GUEST SPEAKER PRESENTATION
Ms. Sophie from YPK Bali Rehabilitation Centre for disabled children informed that a Charity Event will be held at Villa Dampati, Jl Segara Ayu, Sanur on Saturday 6 February 2010, 7pm-11pm. All event proceeds will support YPK’s education program for disabled children.

Ticket prices are IDR 200.000 when pre-paid and IDR 250.000 at the door. She hoped for strong support from RCBND.

ANNOUNCEMENT, REPORTS
President Martin Smyth
Opened the meeting by welcoming the guest and thanking the attending members. He briefed the floor on results from the earlier Board Meeting informing that:

1.    Karl-Heinz Schmelzer was confirmed as Secretary Elect for the tenure 2010/2011.

2.    Dave Lance having accepted his nomination as President Elect for the tenure 2011/2012 was confirmed for this position.

3.    The induction of Werner Gulba was postponed to 14.1.2010.

4.    The membership proposal of Risto Poskiparta was approved by all levels of RCBND.

5.    The New Year Launching Party will take place at the Nikko Hotel. Details will be provided later by Michael Burchett.

6.    Jon Zuercher was in charge on providing details on the Rotaract Gala Dinner scheduled for 6.2.2010.

7.    Mimi Inkiriwang was in charge of coordinating activities for the fun walk scheduled for 7.3.2010. The fun walk will contain elements of End Polio Now scheme.

Ari Murti
With immediate effect aids infected mothers can now be attended at Puskesmas in Nusa Dua.

The Orphanage Parties on 19.12.2009 were a big success. A special thanks to Michael Burchett for his support in organizing the events.

Jose Calle
Due to his intensive travelling he apologized for not having been able to attend many Rotary meetings in the past. That is also the reason for his stepping down as chairman of the Community Relation service within the Bali Hotel Association (BHA). One of the main charity activities of the BHA is the patronage of individual hotels over orphanages. His work there will be continued by Virginie Sandstron, GM of Harris Hotel, Kuta.

Nunie Kniep
Referring to the orphanage scheme Nunie proposed to add an element of home industries and agriculture aiming at making the orphanages more self supportive.

Bipan Kapur
Following the presentation of Daniel Elber regarding the Muntigunung “Future for Children“project, the Westin Hotel is now in contact with the project organizers buying their produce.

Edward Naus
Attention was drawn to a case where funds in an orphanage near Ubud had been misappropriated by the orphanage director. This being not a single case, close monitoring of the use of donations in orphanages is mandatory.

Werner Gulba
His initial reservations towards the orphanage parties taking place in star rated hotels were turned into the opposite by seeing the joy of so many children.

Risto Poskiparta
On behalf of Rotarian Oivind Heidalen visiting RCBND some time earlier a banner from RC Prosgrunn (Norway) was submitted.

Michael Burchett
Once more special thanks to Mimi Inkiriwang and Nunie Kneip for their work on the organisation of the orphanage party was extended.

Then the attending members were briefed on the New Year Launching Party which will be held at the OOLOOLOOS of the Nikko Hotel on 14.1.2010 commencing at 19.00.

The tickets will be available for net IDR 250.000 for adults and IDR 125.000 for children under 12. The admission of children under 3 will be complementary. The tickets cover cocktails and dinner. Beer and wine will be available at special rates. The dress scheme for the evening shall be “black and white”.

Guest speaker of the day was Rotarian Axel Kneip who outlined his life from pre-birth to today.
